Speech researcher Tanja Schlutz of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, has helped to develop a device that will automatically translate speech into a foreign language. Electrodes attached to the face and neck, detect and interpret the patterns of signals that are sent to the facial muscles as the person mouths words.
