Diesel are supporting the art world by launching a competition for designers win the chance of exhibiting their work on the side of buildings and giant walls within city centers. The winners will be displayed in Manchester, Barcelona, Zurich and New York. The campaign was developed to cut through the thousands of advertising messages we are faced with, to “salvage what precious public space is left and fill it with something worth saying.” The words “pot” and “kettle” spring to mind Mr Diesel but I am interested in seeing the results from the competition. Genius. Swiss company Netgranny was founded by Swiss fashion label Tarzan and is made up of 15 grannies who feed their love of knitting by making socks on demand and sell them online. You can choose which granny you want to make your socks by reading their profile to see why they love knitting in the first place, then you can pick your colour or design and then wait three weeks whilst your granny knits away.

Elle MacPherson Intimates storefront

For New York Fashion Week, Elle MacPherson Intimates launched an interactive storefront, allowing users to reveal the video footage of the models on the windows through their movements on the street. This is by no means a new medium but it has been executed very well and has received a lot of positive WOM.

Human Flipbook to promote subs

This is just superb! Erbert & Gerbert’s Subs & Clubs is a sandwich chain in the US. They were looking for an innovative way to activate their brand on both TV and online. The result? The Human Flipbook. 9 hours and 150 T-Shirts later the result is a great 30 second commercial.

Harvey Nichols viral causes a stir

Now, I have slightly mixed feelings about this viral and judging from the completely varied reviews it has received, so have many others. DDB have been incredibly brave with this video. The objective was obviously to create a piece of work that would go viral and through this video, they have certainly achieved this (not to get the ad on TV like some FW said in a comment on YouTube). Some of the references such as the goat being sick in the toilets and in particular the coke snorting chicken are brilliant and you have to love the Internet for making it possible to share such toilet humour. Personally I would have loved to have seen more similar references to make the most of the potential shock factor however, I am sure these two clips alone were hard enough to get approved.

Disco keyboard

Want one, want one, want one! Korean based firm Luxeed have developed a way to take the edge off the 9 to 5. They have designed a keyboard that changes colour with every key stroke through LEDs under every key. Hard to imagine I realise, but try to think of a 70’s dance floor a la Saturday Night Fever on your desk. The colours can be changed to create a more subtle ambiance for those that like mood lighting as they work. Sadly they are only available within Korea at the moment but keep your eyes peeled as hopefully they will be making their way over soon.

Scalar Corporation in Japan have just released a revolutionary new product that offers a new way to watch videos on the move. Users connect the Teleglass T3-F device to a pair of glasses and a small screen that fits over one of the lenses displays video content whilst still being able to look where you are going through the other lens. The device (that can be connected to either an iPod, digital camera or a DVD player) is currently only available in Japan and is retailed at $850, although the company will be expanding overseas soon.
