Rickroll flash mob
April 16, 2008 | Leave a Comment
So I am a little late writing this post but on Friday evening I headed over to Liverpool Street Station to take part in the Rick Astely flashmob. If you don’t know what a flashmob is then you can look here. If you don’t know what all the fuss is about with Rick Astley then you can find out here.
As flashmobs go, it wasn’t one of the greatest but it was still really fun nevertheless. 5:59pm people were loitering around the departure boards and as the final ten seconds took us to 6pm the excitement began. It is unfortunate that more people watched rather than participate as it’s not really in the spirit of flashmobs however, you can see what you think courtesy of my Qik video
Diesel create outdoor spaces
March 30, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Diesel are supporting the art world by launching a competition for designers win the chance of exhibiting their work on the side of buildings and giant walls within city centers. The winners will be displayed in Manchester, Barcelona, Zurich and New York. The campaign was developed to cut through the thousands of advertising messages we are faced with, to “salvage what precious public space is left and fill it with something worth saying.” The words “pot” and “kettle” spring to mind Mr Diesel but I am interested in seeing the results from the competition. Asics in Sao Paulo are currently running a campaign called Face the Streets. The campaign decorates Sao Paulo’s drains and turns them into ads featuring the hero of the show itself.

Penguin gives you an adventure telling stories
March 20, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Yesterday afternoon the rather good brand marketer who actually gets it Jeremy Ettinghausen alerted me to the fact that Penguin were launching a new site called We tell stories. The site shows a series of six stories, one launched each week that includes an interactive layer in the form of Google Maps. The user follows the authors journey through Google Maps, seeing the places referred to in the stories themselves. That in itself is a very nice campaign. If you are fairly observant, you will see a hidden code. I am not going to give anything away but the journey it takes you on completely turns it from a nice campaign, to a “wow” campaign that I just loved. Some of you I know are reading from outside London so if you want to know how it ends up, send me a message and I will share with you. The site was developed by Six to Start and if the first adventure is anything to go by, keep checking in every week for the other five installments.
Don’t click

I saw a few months ago but never actually noted it down until I wanted to show it to someone this evening. Imagine going to a website and never clicking. Trust me, it’s harder than you would think. German Artist Alex Frank designed and developed a website to test your surfing habits whereby the entire navigation of the site goes against your natural instinct and encourages you not to click, instead by moving your cursor you can unveil the layers within the site. Pretty impressive.

MINI - The Other View
September 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment

So we’ve just launched a very interesting campaign for MINI in the lead up to the launch of the new Clubman model and i’m not usually in the habit of promoting our own work, but wanted to share it. Theotherview.co.uk is a site that shows a series of clips that look at things from a different perspective. The catch is the clips will only be shown for 1 minute a week and a counter above the door that leads you to “The Other View” counts down the seconds to when the door is opened. The time is judged by the clock on the users computer so for example, when the users clock turns 4pm BST (tomorrow’s time for example) the view behind the door is revealed. Refreshing to finally see brands start to use the Internet in new ways. See you at 4pm.
Elle MacPherson Intimates storefront

For New York Fashion Week, Elle MacPherson Intimates launched an interactive storefront, allowing users to reveal the video footage of the models on the windows through their movements on the street. This is by no means a new medium but it has been executed very well and has received a lot of positive WOM.
