4mations
September 30, 2008 | 1 Comment
Channel 4 have partnered with Aardman to create 4mations, a site that allows users to upload their content (videos & games) and then earn money from it if their content proves to be the most popular. stay with me because it sounded a little dirty to me at first too but they do reign it back. The site allows the more creative users to upload their videos, animations or games and in turn if they are amongst the top viewed that month they could earn up to £250 and the potential to pitch your ideas apparently. A clever way to get talented people to generate lots of page impressions whilst you reap the rewards in advertising revenue but at least 4mations make an attempt to give something back.
Urban Takeover

I just love this. Urban Takeover mixes graffiti with geo-tagging to bring an game that can be played either alone or as part of a team. Users go to the site, download stickers and then place them in areas around the globe that they would like to lay claim to. You then send a text message to Urban Takeover and formally register your claim. The website shows the areas your team have claimed and where the hotspots are to get your more points. The competitive element comes where another team can take your claim as their own, sending you a text message informing you of this attack so you can fight back. A Team Awesome project is needed I think.
PMOG fun

Last week I was directed to PMOG (passively multiplayer online game) by Charlie, an application that lets you play against others simply through browsing the web. “With a game head-up display in Firefox, players can bomb each other, wage war over web sites, and lead other users on web missions. Ordinary web sites become caches for items and currency. PMOG fuses an MMO into our WWW.” I have only recently started playing but have successfully blown up a couple of people and can see myself becoming addicted very easily.
Rickroll flash mob

So I am a little late writing this post but on Friday evening I headed over to Liverpool Street Station to take part in the Rick Astely flashmob. If you don’t know what a flashmob is then you can look here. If you don’t know what all the fuss is about with Rick Astley then you can find out here.
As flashmobs go, it wasn’t one of the greatest but it was still really fun nevertheless. 5:59pm people were loitering around the departure boards and as the final ten seconds took us to 6pm the excitement began. It is unfortunate that more people watched rather than participate as it’s not really in the spirit of flashmobs however, you can see what you think courtesy of my Qik video
8 things you might not know about me
March 12, 2008 | 3 Comments

Following a trail that’s going around the blogosphere, I have been tagged by the highly delightful Eaon Pritchard. The idea is to get to know each other better by revealing 8 random things about yourself so here you go:
1. I love being surrounded by animals. I have a cat called Bear (because he’s big and hairy) and on my desk you will find two goldfish and a Leopard Gecko (yes a real one).
2. My Dad is a great musician and was in a rock band which was fun as one of my babysitters was Mitch Mitchell.
3. I’m a fan of Marshall Arts and got my Red Belt in Kickboxing.
4. I have been playing the guitar since I was 12 and my Fender Stratocaster takes pride of place in my living room.
5. I love food, both eating and cooking equally. I particularly love anything that once lived in the sea.
6. My Mum is a hippy. She is a Reiki Master and I love going to see her as it’s like visiting a little retreat.
7. Four years ago I accidentally fell in love with my now Managing Director. Fortunately it was reciprocated.
8. I studied Business Information Systems at University and wanted to be a developer. I took a job in advertising until I figured out what to do with my life.
Now I pass this onto another 8 bloggers, so over to you……look forward to reading them!
