4mations

Channel 4 have partnered with Aardman to create 4mations, a site that allows users to upload their content (videos & games) and then earn money from it if their content proves to be the most popular. stay with me because it sounded a little dirty to me at first too but they do reign it back. The site allows the more creative users to upload their videos, animations or games and in turn if they are amongst the top viewed that month they could earn up to £250 and the potential to pitch your ideas apparently. A clever way to get talented people to generate lots of page impressions whilst you reap the rewards in advertising revenue but at least 4mations make an attempt to give something back.
Face your manga

Something to make you all smile, similar to Simpsonise me without the fastfood funding, Face Your Manga does just that. You can create your own manga character to look just like you. Although the site is nice I would like it more if I could upload a picture of myself and it does it all for me, as I was never any good at self portraits which is why I opted for the cat mask, but the additional features you can add are pretty sweet.

Goodby, Silverstein & Partners have launched a really nice site for Adobe to support the launch of Creative Suite 3. Adobe Cards starts with a single card with a scrollbar along the bottom of the screen, offering you to move the bar to “take as much as you want”. As the user moves the scrollbar, the cards animate into a really stunning animation sequence.
Moshi Monsters

London-based gaming agency Mind Candy have developed a new social-networking sites for kids called Moshi Monsters. Instead of creating their own user profiles, kids can adopt their own monster. Users can choose the colour and name of their monster before taking it home. Every monster has a personality that changes and develops as you play with it. Treat it badly and it will misbehave, treat it well and you will have a very happy little monster. Kids can play puzzles and feed their monster and they can also customise the house that it lives in. Users can also make other monster friends and communicate with them by leaving messages on a regulated pin board. Source: Cool Hunting.
Self serving ads that save the world

This is a really sweet animation put together by ad agencies Airside and Mother on how we can do our bit to save the earth. The interesting takeaway is that their animation actually serves as a great advertisement for the quality of their work… So in a way, this is a self promoting ad that also aims to save the world!
