MINI - The Other View
September 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment

So we’ve just launched a very interesting campaign for MINI in the lead up to the launch of the new Clubman model and i’m not usually in the habit of promoting our own work, but wanted to share it. Theotherview.co.uk is a site that shows a series of clips that look at things from a different perspective. The catch is the clips will only be shown for 1 minute a week and a counter above the door that leads you to “The Other View” counts down the seconds to when the door is opened. The time is judged by the clock on the users computer so for example, when the users clock turns 4pm BST (tomorrow’s time for example) the view behind the door is revealed. Refreshing to finally see brands start to use the Internet in new ways. See you at 4pm.
Halo 3 site

This is such a good website to promote the launch of Halo 3. Created by AKQA, the entire set was hand built which allows users to fully explore the vast landscape of the model. The site holds nice little interactive spots allowing the user to view elements in more detail, and offers other benefits such as downloadable content. I am under no illusion that trying to promote something as interactive as a game is ever going to be easy, but this site certainly delivers a positive feeling toward the product.
Elle MacPherson Intimates storefront

For New York Fashion Week, Elle MacPherson Intimates launched an interactive storefront, allowing users to reveal the video footage of the models on the windows through their movements on the street. This is by no means a new medium but it has been executed very well and has received a lot of positive WOM.
Hey! Nielsen

Hey Nielsen! is a new online community from The Nielsen Company. It basically allows the user to share opinions on TV, movies, websites and music and rank them in order through both opinions that users have left and the rating that users have given. The site also allows the user to build a profile and keep a record of other users opinions. I have only just started playing with this site so I am yet to form a concrete opinion, but it looks promising.
Stephen Fry on the iPhone

I have come across Stephen Fry’s new blog and interesting to see he has dedicated his first post to the SmartPhone. I know Stephen is a bit of a techie anyway and is obviously already a published writer in his own right, but I think you will agree that this is a superb first post. Interestingly Stephen gives an overview of the iPhone that he had shipped over from the US and although he confesses to go mad for all things Apple, he gives a wonderfully honest account of his experience of the phone. Keep your eyes out for this blog.
No more charger problems

At last! Boing Boing have reported that the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) group has decided to standardise mobile chargers so we can wave goodbye to annoying work emails such as “does anyone have a [insert desired brand] charger I can borrow”. The OMTP Group consists of companies such as Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, LG and Sony Ericsson. The decision is thought to have been a result of the environmental pressures that companies are now facing in how they recycle their equipment.
Human Flipbook to promote subs

This is just superb! Erbert & Gerbert’s Subs & Clubs is a sandwich chain in the US. They were looking for an innovative way to activate their brand on both TV and online. The result? The Human Flipbook. 9 hours and 150 T-Shirts later the result is a great 30 second commercial.
Harvey Nichols viral causes a stir

Now, I have slightly mixed feelings about this viral and judging from the completely varied reviews it has received, so have many others. DDB have been incredibly brave with this video. The objective was obviously to create a piece of work that would go viral and through this video, they have certainly achieved this (not to get the ad on TV like some FW said in a comment on YouTube). Some of the references such as the goat being sick in the toilets and in particular the coke snorting chicken are brilliant and you have to love the Internet for making it possible to share such toilet humour. Personally I would have loved to have seen more similar references to make the most of the potential shock factor however, I am sure these two clips alone were hard enough to get approved.

This is a cool little animation by Dan Meth that sums up the best virals on the Internet from the last few years.

This is a great site created to celebrate the release of Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits on 1st October. The site pays homage to his video to Subterranean Homesick Blues and allows users to post messages on the cards within the video to then send to a friend. Not a new technology granted, but a lovely simple viral to support the launch.
